Kodencherry Juma Masjid
Kodancherry Juma Masjid, located in Marancherry (Ponnani taluk) of Malappuram district, is one of the oldest and most historically important places of worship in Malabar.
Historical significance
This is one of the oldest mosques in the area. The old meesan stones (stone inscriptions) in the cemetery of the Kodanchery mosque are dated to 700 AH (around 14th century AD). This mosque is a living testament to the vibrant Muslim community and cultural heritage that has existed in the area for centuries.
Architecture
This mosque is a rare structure built entirely in the Kerala style of architecture, before the minarets and large domes seen today.
Tiled roof:
The church has a traditional red tiled, sloping roof. It is designed to withstand the heavy rains of Kerala.
Carpentry excellence:
The doors and roof of the church feature beautiful woodwork and carvings reminiscent of old Kerala palaces and villas.
